The Ötztal Alps form part of the most glaciated mountain range in the east Alps. Glacier research has been undertaken for more than a 100 years in this area. Accordingly, a large set of data (historic maps and measuring data, air photographs, satellite data, laser scanner data etc.) is available showing the changes of the glacier areas and voluminas. Clearly visible are the dynamic changes, even over short periods, and different behaviours of both glaciers, as well as the results of the record heat wave summer of 2003.
